William J. "Bill" Plath, Jr.,89, of Amery, Wisconsin, formerly of Webster, Wisconsin, died at the Golden Age Manor on Sunday, April 26, 2015. William John Plath, Jr. was born on July 9, 1925, in Spencer, Wisconsin, the son of William Sr. and Renata (Hoops) Plath. He grew up in the Spencer area and graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. Bill joined the Navy and honorably served during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. After his service he attended Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point and graduated with a teaching degree. He was married to Bonnie A. Oelrich on February 3, 1951, in Spencer, Wisconsin. Together they moved to Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin where Bill took his first job as a teacher and later principal of the Lac du Flambeau Public School. Together they raised three children, Douglas, Richard, and Cheryl. After 20 years the family moved to Webster, Wisconsin, where Bill accepted the Elementary Supervisor position which he kept until his retirement in 1988. In retirement Bill enjoyed his home on the north shore of Big Yellow Lake, fishing, deer hunting, camping with his family, and 20 years of winter stays in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Plath of Amery, Wis.; daughter and sons, Cheri (Mike) Stromberg of Webster, Doug (Linda) Plath of Webster, and Dick (Sharon) Plath of Otsego, MN; grandchildren, Josh (Jenny) Plath, Lisa (Jason) Sigfrids, Heidi Stromberg, Aaron (Caitlin) Stromberg, Deanna (Jeremy) Grabow, Tiffany (Eric) Sand, Trisha (Bob) Nichols, Dana (Justin) Reese, and Eric Plath; Fourteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 4-7PM at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, Wisconsin. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11AM ( visitation from 10-11AM) at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Webster, Wisconsin with Pastor Jody Walter officiating. Music Provided by Annette Arnold and Lori Krause. Pallbearers are, Joshua Plath, Aaron Stromberg, Eric Plath, Jeremy Grabow, Justin Reese, Brad Sigfrids, and Jason Sigfrids. Interment will be held at the Northern Wisconsin State Veterans Memorial Cemetery . Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home , Webster, Wisconsin.
