William “Bill” Anthony Dingmann, a resident of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on July 16, 2024, at the age of 81.
Bill was born on May 21, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Robert and Genevieve Dingmann. He attended Grantsburg School District, where he graduated from high school in 1961, before attending the University of Wisconsin in River Falls.
Bill moved to Los Angeles, graduating from the Los Angeles Police Academy and serving in the Los Angeles Police Department. During this time, he married Janet, and together they had three children, Robert, Jennifer, and Nick. When they moved to Minnesota in 1966, he joined the University of Minnesota Police Department, and then moved onto the Brooklyn Center Police Department. They decided to move back to the Grantsburg area in 1972 where Bill held multiple jobs. He worked as a businessman, farrier, and managed the school district’s food service before joining the Burnett County Sheriffs Department as a criminal investigator.
Bill married Jacqueline in the early 2000’s, and became a stepfather to Debra, Sandra, and Angela. Together they raised many dogs and trained horses.
Bill was a lifelong horseman, and thrived while exploring the trails of Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Wyoming, while also celebrating the outdoors by hunting and fishing. He enjoyed tinkering around in his shop, and deeply appreciated his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife; Jacqueline Dingmann, brothers; Donald (Evelynne) Dingmann, James (Evelyn) Dingmann, children; Robert (Anca) Dingmann, Jennifer (Richard) Thomsen, and Nick (Bonnie) Dingmann, stepchildren; Debra Anderson, Sandra Guptill, and Angela Coen, sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his three children; Janet (McClain) Dingmann, parents; Robert and Genevieve (Patnaude) Dingmann, sister; Roberta Dingmann, and brother; Dudley Dingmann.
A memorial service for Bill will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Wood River Christian Fellowship in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
