Walter “Bud” Joseph Benedix III, a resident of Streamwood, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at his family's cabin in Webster, WI, on July 13, 2024.
Bud was born on January 3, 1960 in Elgin, IL to parents Walter “Buster” and Rosalie (Gaba) Benedix Jr.
Bud and Kim met while working at the Village of Hanover Park. They formed a genuine friendship that grew into a deep love. They were each other’s person. Soulmates for sure; always together. Bud and Kim were married on February 25, 2001 at their home in Streamwood. Bud did have a knack of saying or posting things that would shock his wife, but it was more to get a reaction and a laugh out of her. He had the best sense of humor and would always look at the bright side of things.
Bud worked at the Village of Hanover Park for over 20 years. He was a proud equipment operator and water treatment operator for the majority of his time with the village. He also worked for the Hanover Park Fire Department as a POC Paramedic/Firefighter II. During this time, he made many friendships that were like family to him. After a brief retirement from the Village, he returned to the workforce as a Bulker Driver for Prairie Materials where he worked till the time of his passing.
His family was the most important thing in his life. He was always so proud of Chris, Eric and Amanda and would sing their praises to anyone who would listen. He definitely was a proud dad who went to all the football games and cheer competitions. And that dedication continued on with the grandchildren.
He loved his grandkids and had a very special relationship with each and every one of them. He enjoyed holding the babies and rocking them to sleep. Although often, he would fall asleep with them.
He loved riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, and being up north at the family cabin. He found the quiet, peaceful surroundings a place where he could truly relax. He enjoyed watching his family have fun and enjoy the cabin making memories as wonderful as the times he had with his brothers and sisters when they were young.
Bud had many, many friends. He had a way of making you feel comfortable. Friendships were important to him. His genuine happiness, selflessness and enjoyment of life was infectious. He left a mark on the hearts of everyone around him.
Bud had a unique essence. At first glance, he seemed like a tough guy, someone you definitely wouldn’t want to mess with, especially if it involved people he cared for. But once you were in his circle, he loved you deeply. A strong protective side balanced with warmth and loyalty. His smile and laughter were incredibly contagious. He lived life to its fullest and remained forever young at heart.
His memory will forever be honored by embracing the lessons he taught us: to love life, savor every moment, and cherish family and friends with pure love.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William “Bill” Benedix.
He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Kim; children, Chris (Abbi) Rapp, Eric (Annette) Rapp and Amanda (Brad) Bohn; grandchildren, Desi, Jordan, Kayla, Addison, Alana, Addison, Alivia, Emma, Aubrey, Alana, Bryant, Evan and Ryan; siblings, Sue (Tom) Gilbert, Steve (Traci) Benedix and Karen Benedix; and life-long friend and honorary family member Denise Burroughs; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
