Violette Elizabeth Helland, age 94, of Siren, died October 25, 2007, at Burnett Medical Center in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Violette was born on June 29, 1913, in Daniels Township to Edward A. and Freda Anderson. She attended several schools during her childhood education, including Mudhen Lake, Falun, and Siren. Violette attended Young and Hirsch Business College in Duluth, Minnesota. After graduation she worked for Noble Chance Hardware Store in Siren. Later she found employment with Blom Bros. store until her father built a grocery store on the corner of Hwy. 35 and Main St. in Siren, Anderson's Clover Farm Store. She worked there with her parents during which time she married Stanley Helland, also a resident of Siren. To this union three sons were born. Stanley and Violette operated the store for forty years until their retirement. Church was always an important part of Violette's life including teaching Sunday School, babysitting in the nursery, and taking part in various women's groups of First Baptist Church of Falun. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries for 60 years. The Gideon International Auxiliary was also a big part of her life with many enjoyable and inspirational meetings and events. The group helped distribute Bibles throughout the world. Violette received great pleasure by entertaining friends, family and everyone with an appetite. She greeted everyone with a warm and cheerful smile and there was always lots of fun and laughter. She was well known for her good cooking, sharing this talent with her husband. Violette's life revolved around her family. She was always involved in their activities, attending school and church functions with them. Violette was preceeded in death by her parents, Freda and Edward, brothers Russell and Bennie, and son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Debbie. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Stanley of Siren, sons Mikal of Siren and James (Kathy) of Webster, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother Einar, and many friends and relatives.
