Ruth Stuart

October 17, 1917 — December 29, 2008

Ruth M. Stuart, age 91 of Superior, WI (formerly of Frederic) died December 29, 2008. Ruth was born October 17, 1917 to Bessie (Motley) and Emile Peterson in Hamblin, Montana, their 3rd child. She graduated from Cloverton, MN High School in 1935. Ruth married William "Bill" Stuart on September 2, 1936 and they lived in Kingsdale, MN until 1941 when they bought a farm outside of Markville, MN. In 1973 Bill developed heart trouble and they moved to a small rural location west of Frederic, WI. Bill died in 1983 on that place, but Ruth continued living there until 1993 when she moved to the Frederic Sunrise Apts. She was baptized on August 29, 1976 and joined the Frederic Evangelical Free Church in 1984, enjoying the fellowship of many friends there over the years. Her Bible was well worn and dog-eared. Ruth lived by a favorite Bible verse known as the Golden Rule. She was an avid Scrabble player and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Ruth also read the paper daily and was interested in the culture and politics, making certain she voted in every election. She often clipped and collected interesting newspaper articles, quotes and poems, pasting them in her scrapbook to refer back to at times for sharing or encouraging others. One of her favorite quotes was from Abraham Lincoln who said, "I never behold (the heavens filled with stars) that I do not feel I am looking in the face of God. I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down on the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God." Ruth resided at Capeside Cove Nursing Home in Siren for 6 months in 2005 and then moved to the Comforts of Home in Frederic in May 2005 until October of 2006 when she moved to the Frederic Nursing and Rehab Center. She had recently moved to the St. Francis in the Park Care Center in Superior, WI. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, brothers Lewis and Jesse Peterson and sister Virginia Grace. Ruth is survived by her nieces Luci Johnson and a favorite great-great niece, Mollie Dorna of Newport, Oregon and Janice Peterson-Pasierb and her three children of Fairfax, Virginia, special friends Maria Kay Kleve of Wooster, Ohio and Judy Hammond of Frederic, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Swedberg-Taylor Family Funeral Home in Siren, Wisconsin, with Pastor Greg Lund officiating. Music was provided by Jill Lund, soloist and Carol Everson, pianist. Interment followed at the Markville Cemetery, Arna Township, Pine County, Minnesota.
