Russell Christensen

December 11, 1932 — October 18, 2023

Russell H. Christensen, age 90, of Grantsburg passed away at Burnett Medical Center CCC on October 18, 2023.

Russell was born on December 11, 1932 to Harry and Edna (McLain) Christensen. He lived most of his adult life in Grantsburg.

On June 2, 1956, he married Deanna (Anderson) Christensen and they enjoyed 67 years together. To this union one son, Brian was born.

An avid hunter and fisherman Russell hunted and fished with his father in his younger years and then later with his son.

Russell attended school in Bass Lake and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1950. After graduation he went off to the Air Force for 4 years. He then worked for Red Owl. After barber school he owned 2 different barber shops in Grantsburg. He had customers from all over and enjoyed talking to every one of them. He retired in 2011 at the age of 78.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 185 for 60 years. He held every position in that post except for Chaplain which laughingly, he would say he didn’t think he was qualified.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister in laws, Dottie Manske, Darlene Christensen and Judith Anderson; brother-in-law, Wendell Manske.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna; son, Brian; grandson, Devan who he was very proud of; his brother, Paul; brother-in-law, David Anderson; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the many workers at Burnett Medical Continuing Care Center who provided loving care and always made sure he had a cookie. Also, the workers from St. Croix Hospice who were so helpful nearing the end of life.

The memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM at The Foxhole-American Legion Post 185 in Grantsburg. Military honors will be rendered at 3:00 PM.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Grantsburg, WI. Online condolences can be made at www.swedberg-taylor.com
