Roxann “Binesiigaabawiikwe” Emerson left this world on May 26, 2021.
Roxann was born on August 13, 1970, to Temperance “Tempy” McLain and Larry Emerson in St. Louis, Missouri. Roxann grew up in St. Louis, where she had many friends and family.
Roxann loved adventures, and after spending more than a decade in Florida, she eventually chose to return to her homelands of the Mille Lacs Reservation where she lived in Hinckley, Minnesota.
Roxann had an outgoing, lively personality and loved to banter back and forth with friends and family. She had a very candid, straight-forward way of expressing herself that often amused and occasionally startled those around her. With an artist’s eye for detail, Roxann developed a talent as an amateur manicurist. She had an extensive manicure supply, and the luckiest of those around her would delight in receiving a beautiful nail treatment from Roxann.
She enjoyed going to the casino, one of her favorite past-times. You always knew how Roxann’s play was going by how she handled the machines she was playing on, especially if she thought there was room for the machine to improve. Roxann loved animals and cherished her cat, Puddy, and her dog, Bad Duce. When Puddy went missing, Roxann was determined to find him and searched tirelessly for him after many would have given up. Her efforts paid off when Roxann, Puddy and Bad Duce were happily reunited two weeks later.
Roxann was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Emerson, and maternal grandparents Frances Reynolds Staples and George Staples.
She is survived by children Christopher McLain, Misty Dawn McLain, Katherine Doyle, James Doyle, Sierra Kimball, Ari Doyle, Chloe Dixon, Roxann Emerson, eleven grandchildren along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who were very close to her.
Pall Bearers are Keith Modglin, Elijah Staples, Marvin Staples, Jr., Joshua Staples, Carlos Hernandez and Dulith Panapitiya.
The wake will begin at dusk on Saturday, May 29, with the funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 30, at the Aazhoomog Community Center with Lee Staples officiating.
