Roger Valentine Hess, 66, of Siren, WI passed away April 15, 2016. Roger was born May 14, 1949 to Leroy and Ellen (Hess) Hess in Tomahawk, WI, the 12th of 20 children. He attended schools in several districts starting in Tomahawk, WI and ending in Grantsburg, WI. Roger enlisted in the Navy on October 23, 1967, stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois, and was discharged February 6, 1968. On May 16, 1970, he married Bonnie Dyer at Grace Church in Grantsburg, WI. In September of that year, their daughter Rose was born and buried. In 1973, they had Tina and in 1974 Peggy was born. Bonnie and Roger divorced in 1994. They were married 24 years. On December 19, 2005 Roger married Rita Frederickson and they remained married until his death. Roger spent most of his working years at Northern Manufacturing in Grantsburg, WI, but also worked for a very short time at Fisher stoves and worked part time for Donnie Mack reupholstering furniture. He had many hobbies including karaoke, woodworking, reupholstering furniture, photography, looking at old cars, hunting, and fishing. He collected guns and eagles. He loved his family and friends. Anyone could always sit and have a beer, or a root beer, with Roger. Roger is preceded in death by parents, Ellen and Leroy Hess; brothers, David, Arthur, Gary, Michael and Melvin; sisters, Linda, Bonita, and Grace; and daughter, Rose. He is survived by his wife, Rita; brothers, Leroy “Sonny” Hess of Grantsburg, WI, Bill (Hazel) Hess of Hill City, MN, Darold (Maggie) Hess of Grantsburg, WI, Laurance (Gail) Hess of Danbury, WI; sisters, Delores “Toots” Barr of Tomahawk, WI, Joyce Jones of Sevierville, TN, Darlene (Van) Johnson of Sevierville, TN, Jeanne (Bennie) Jensen of Grantsburg, WI, Laurel (Phifer) Fullenwider of Durham, NC, Kathy (Floyd) Frazee of Frederic, WI, and Aleta (Bruce) Millin of Menomonie, WI; daughters, Peggy Hess of Dallas, WI, and Tina Widell of Grantsburg, WI; grandkids, Duaine, Andrew (Sandy), Kevin, Michael, Liam, Jesse, Alexander, Jacob, Tomas, Sara, Charlotte, Wyatt, Landon, and Riley; and one great grandson, Leo. Memorial service will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Grantsburg, WI on April 28, 2016 at 1PM. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at 12:00PM on April 29, 2016. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home Grantsburg, WI.
