Richard "Dick" A. Frees, age 89, a resident of Grantsburg died January 10, 2015. Dick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 29, 1925. Dick resided in Deephaven and Orono, Minnesota before moving to Grantsburg in 1976. In his adolescent years he was active in the Boy Scouts where he earned the Eagle Scout badge and was elected to the Order of the Arrow. After high school in 1943, he joined the US Army and saw foreign duty in England, France and Belgium. On June 1, 1946 Dick married Elaine Greenwald, his high school sweetheart. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post in Deephaven, Minnesota and was raised to Third Degree Mason in January 1963. He was also active in the Wild River Shriners Club and the Grantsburg Rotary Club. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Irene Frees and grandson Adam. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine; sons Allen (Joan) and John (Joyce) of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter Julie (Paul) Hendrickson of St. Cloud, Minnesota; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Carolyn Cotey of Huntley, Illinois; along with other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Central United Methodist Church with Pastor Kris Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minneapolis Shriners Hospital for Children or Central United Methodist Church, Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
