Norman Randell Manthie, age 88, of Grantsburg, WI., passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Burnett Medical Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg. Norman was born March 6, 1927 in Menomonie, WI., a son of Elmer A. and Leona M. (Hillman) Manthie. Norman attended school in Jefferson, WI. On February 12, 1949, Norman was united in marriage to Beverly A. Mangelsen in Robbinsdale, MN. Norman worked for Schweiger Furniture until he moved to Grantsburg in 1954. He worked at Northern Manufacturing in Grantsburg, WI prior to starting his own furniture upholstery business, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1999. He was also a fishing guide on the St. Croix National Scenic River way for many years. Norm was charming, hardworking, passionate, social, kind hearted and a perfectionist. He loved the outdoors and hunting, but his real passion was fishing. Norm also had a hobby of tying his own flies, making his own baits and building fishing rods. He also built several wooden river boats. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Norm is preceded in death his father, Elmer Manthie; and mother, Leona Eggert; brother, Tom; wife, Beverly; sons, Randel and Ronald Manthie; and great-granddaughter Corrine Quimby. Surviving are his daughter, Norma (Gary) Wickstrom; daughters-in law, Edith Manthie and Lynn Manthie; grandchildren: Sandy (Tom) Quimby, Vicky (Scott) Swanson, Doug (Stephanie) Wickstrom and Susan (Trevor) Huerstel; eight great grandchildren and sister, Viola Engsberg. Funeral Services for Norman will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at 11:00am (visitation from 10:00 -11:00 am) at Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, WI with Pastor Sandy Hutchens officiating. Music for the service will be kindly provided by Linda Dahl and Erin Spohn. Interment will immediately follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg. Pallbearers are Tom Quimby, Scott Swanson, Doug Wickstrom, Trevor Huerstel, Rodney Mangelsen and Mark Peterson. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home Grantsburg WI.
