Nora Searles

Nora F. Searles, age 96, a lifelong resident of LaFollette Township died August 31, 2011 at Spooner Health Systems. Nora was born at the family home in LaFollette on May 30, 1915 to Joseph and Faye Dietrick. On April 27, 1935 Nora married Harold Searles. They resided at the Cranberry Marsh just south of Hertel for all their years. Nora and Harold worked hard and enjoyed many travels and fun experiences during their life together. They were always together going hunting, fishing, and square dancing. Nora was the first woman to solo in an airplane in Burnett County. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. After Harold passed away in 2002, Nora continued to live in their home until 2010 when she then moved in with her daughter, Linda due to poor health. Nora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold; granddaughter Cynthia Peters; son Daniel Searles; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters Sue (Penn) Peters, Linda (Craig) Root; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friend Mary Ann Kies. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Lakeview United Methodist Church in Hertel with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Music will be provided by Jo Henrickson and Bob Watkins. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Penn Peters, Craig Root, Tim Peters, Chris Searles, Andrew Searles, and Ben Nelson.
