Nancy Matrious

Nancy Anna Matrious, age 61, of Danbury, died after a long and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her family, on September 11, 2015. Nancy was born on August 19, 1954 to parents, Nancy and Clyde Matrious. In life, Nancy worked at the Chippewa Corner Cafe as Manager for many years until she went to work as the Human Resource Director at the Hole in the Wall Casino. During this time, she was also the Chairperson for Johnson O'Malley/Title XI Native Education Parent Committee. In the early 80's, the committee was successful in sponsoring the first Native American Awareness Days at the Danbury Elementary School along with a Pow Wow at the end of the week. She was also on the Tribal Council for one term in 2011. Nancy enjoyed family gathering and loved showing support for her favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. Once Nancy started something, she never gave up until her goals had been accomplished. Whenever there was a need in her family to care for children, she took them in. Nancy will always be remembered for having the biggest heart and taking care of everything and everybody. She leaves behind not only her own children, but the many others she cared for in life. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Clyde Matrious; brothers, Joseph Clyde Matrious, Clyde James Matrious; sisters, Mary Jane Matrious and Dorothy May Matrious. Nancy is survived by her children; Debbie Matrious, Mathew Matrious, Jordan Matrious, Anna Matrious; grandchildren, Katrina, Destiny, Marcus; brother, Francis Matrious; sisters, Rose (Al) Holter, Darlene Matrious, Susie Matrious; nieces, Sheila Tucker, Dottie Matrious, Wanda Matrious, Claudette Matrious, Misty Matrious, Amber Skinaway; nephews, Karl Matrious, Kurt Matrious, Richard Matrious, Joseph Matrious, Thomas Skinaway, Aaron Skinaway, Dimitri Audie, Jaden Matrious; and many other great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Friends may call after 6:00pm on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Danbury Tribal Hall. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 10am at the Danbury Tribal Hall with Mr. Lee Staples officiating. Burial will be at Danbury Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers are Thomas Skinaway, Dimitri Audie, Joseph Matrious, Anthony Thayer, Kristopher Tucker, J.C. Matrious. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Lowe, Rick Benjamin, Lawrence Matrious, Ron Audie, Jordan Matrious, Kurt Matrious, Karl Matrious, Katrina Matrious-Staples and Kawliga Tucker.
