Beryl Smestad, age 86, a resident of Webster died October 27, 2008 at Camilia Rose Nursing Home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Beryl was born December 19, 1921 in Winfield Township, Michigan. Beryl had a long career as a Registered Nurse and was a cadet nurse during WWII. She worked for many years at hospitals in Long Prairie and Little Falls, MN. She finished her nursing career at Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Beryl retired to Webster in 1985 to her home in the woods from her home in North St. Paul. Beryl was a past member of the Siren VFW Auxiliary. Beryl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Noble, grandson Eric. Beryl is survived by her sons Walter (Grace), Raymond, Melvin (Julie), Edward; daughters Helen (Tom) Hoffman, Lois (Fred) Halberg, Irene Kennedy; grandchildren Brian, Sheila, Valerie, Matthew, Douglas, David, Kristen, Christina, Kelsey, Carolyn, Nathan, John and Gabrielle; 7 great grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Cindy Glocke officiating. Music was provided by vocalist Pat Taylor and organist Dianne Gravesen. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Webster. Casketbearers were David Hoffman, Douglas Hoffman, Tom Hoffman, Brian Smestad, Fred Halberg, and Nathan Kennedy. Arrangemetns were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
