Michael Lee “Mike” Komula, age 47, of Grantsburg, WI, passed away Thursday evening, September 24, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Grand Rapids, MN, on April 19, 1968, Mike attended public schools in Grand Rapids and was a 1987 graduate of Grand Rapids High School. He also attended technical college. His first job out of high school was at the Red Owl Store in Grand Rapids. Mike was employed as the superintendent for Moose Lake Water & Light Commission, Moose Lake, MN. Previously he had worked as a line worker for Okay Construction in Princeton, MN, and then with Xcel Energy, Inc, of Minneapolis, MN. He has resided in the Grantsburg area the past four years. On April 27, 2012, Mike married Katherine A. Hanson at the Carlton County Courthouse in Carlton, MN. He was a devoted family man with a deep-seated faith in the Lord. Mike had a amazing sense of humor. He was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Honest, gentle, kind, loving, loyal, patient are only some the traits that characterize Mike. He loved being outdoors and was passionate about fishing (chasing the walleye). He also loved hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and tending the yard and garden. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed grilling outside. Mike is survived by his wife, Katherine; children: Eli Komula; Jeremiah Komula, Leah Komula, and Nicole Komula; Nicholas Schlaeger, Adam Lee, Alexander Lee, Isaac Lee, and Melanie Lee; and Brett Spawn; his father, Wilfred Komula; his mother, Carol (Young) Whirley; and siblings: Duane Komula, Karen (Brett) Schlink, and Todd Komula. Also surviving are his father-in-law, Glenn (Susan) Hanson; sister-in-law, Jillian Hanson; brother-in-law, Daniel (Kelly) Hanson; very close friend, Tike Sutherland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ann Hanson. A memorial service honoring Michael Lee Komula will be conducted at 7:00 pm (visitation 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm), Thursday evening, October 1, 2015, at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg, WI, with Chaplain Jim Stroebe officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will be held at a later date. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Mike on Saturday, October 10, 2015, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the Wawina Town Hall, 13432 County Rd 25, Wawina, MN.
