Melvin Richard Elliott Sr. January 8, 1936 – November 30, 2014 It is with deep sadness that Melvin lost his battle with cancer. He fought valiantly without any treatment for over 5 years. Melvin Richard Elliott Sr., age 78 of Markville, Minnesota passed away November 30, 2014. Melvin was born January 8, 1936 in Markville, Minnesota to Alfred and Elsie (Siefkas) Elliott. He was raised on the family farm and was a 1955 Graduate of Sandstone High school where he enjoyed playing football. Melvin married Eleanor Burson in Minneapolis, Minnesota January 5, 1956. Melvin was a large part of the community by serving on the Tri Township garbage board, Arna Township Board Member for 32 plus years, Sandstone School Board Member, Sandstone Hospital Board Member, and a Volunteer Firefighter on the Duxbury Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a State Fire Warden for over 35 years, East Central/Sandstone School bus driver for 42 years and Transportation Supervisor for over 25 years. He also Farmed and had his own Construction Business for many, many years. Melvin enjoyed farming, horses, hunting, trapping, logging, leather working and raiding Eleanor’s Cookie Jar at 2 in the morning. Melvin is proceded in death by his loving wife Eleanor; daughter Julie, brother Eugene and both of his parents. Melvin is survived by and will be deeply missed by his sons, Mel Jr.(Jan), Willy(Peg), Todd, sister, Erma (Jim) Coad, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren , and many other family and friends. Services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Markville Zion Lutheran Church at 11 AM (visitation from 10-11AM) with Pastor Tim Faust. Arrangements were made by Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home Webster, Wisconsin. The family cannot thank everyone enough for their love and support through this difficult time. Melvin’s suffering is now over and he is at peace.
