Maurice Peterson

Maurice Alton Peterson , age 91, of Webster, passed away Friday morning, February 6, 2015. Maurice was born at the hospital in Frederic, WI, on September 20, 1923, a son of the late Otto Ephraim and Hulda Albertina (Soderquist) Peterson. He was raised with eleven siblings on the family farm near Grantsburg, attended local schools, and was a 1941 graduate of Grantsburg High School. He was married to Agnes Olin on October 18, 1948 in Mille Lacs, MN, and they raised three daughters. On June 4, 1977, Maurice was united in marriage to Joyce Ann (Soderberg) Gramer. He was employed for numerous years at local Ford Dealerships, primarily in Grantsburg for Blomberg and then Fiedler Ford. He was a new and used auto salesman and then worked in the warranty and parts department. Maurice was an active member of First Baptist Church of Webster and provided special music for many years. Maurice and Joyce were the first commanders of the Awana club when it began at the church. They were also founders of Friendship Gold senior group at the church, with two other married couples. Maurice was also a member of the Indianhead Barbershop Chorus that practices in Balsam Lake, for over 40 years. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them. He had fond memories of them riding on the lawn tractor with him, and when they tried to teach him how to fish. Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hulda Peterson; all of his siblings - 8 sisters and 3 brothers: Annie (Fred) Nelson, Othelia (Victor) Tyberg, Rudolph (Kathleen) Peterson, Irene (LaVerne) Sandberg, Amy Peterson, La Vone (Irvin) Olson, Delroy (Verone) Peterson, Viola Peterson, Elvie Peterson, Parnell (Donald) Johnson, and Roger (Sarah) Peterson. and a grandson, Rollie Menk. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; three daughters: Valerie (Lawrence) Day, Anne (Mark) Janda, and Rebecca (David) Menk; two step-sons: Glenn (Teressa) Gramer and Gary (Wendy) Gramer; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Zumberge. The memorial service honoring the life of Maurice Peterson will be conducted at 11:00 am (visitation 10:00 to 11:00 am), Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Webster, with Pastor Tim Quinn officiating. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be in Wood River Cemetery at a later date.
