Mark H. Loomis, a resident of Grantsburg passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the age of 74.
Mark was born in South St. Paul, Minnesota on November 12, 1948 to Henry and Evelyn Loomis. He attended grade school in St. Paul and the family moved to Grantsburg after his father retired where he attended Jr. and Sr. High school, graduating in 1966. As a young man, he enjoyed wrestling and football. In 1975 he married Kathy Korgy at Our Lady of Victory Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1969, serving on the USS Oriskany and the USS Roosevelt. He was also stationed in Guam and Philippines. After 4 years of service, he went on and attended UW-Stout, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. From 1980-2002 he worked at the Ramsey County Corrections Officer. After retiring he and Kathy retired to the banks of the mighty Trade Lake.
Mark was an active member of the New Hope Lutheran Church and a fifty year member of the American Legion Post 185. He will be remembered for helping prepare community Thanksgiving dinners, playing Santa Claus at their annual children’s pancake breakfast. He enjoyed interacting with everyone particularly children. In recent years, he was honored to be appointed Unit Chaplain.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at New Hope Lutheran Church in Grantsburg with Pastor Emory Johnson officiating and full military honors provided by the US Navy and the American Legion Post 185.
