Marilyn Kallman

Marilyn Lee Kallman , age 73, of Grantsburg, WI, passed away on March 24, 2019, at Casa De La Luz Hospice Center in Tucson, AZ, after a 13-year battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma. Her loving husband, Lloyd, was by her side.
Marilyn was born on March 8, 1946, in Eureka Township to Lorraine Horner and Tom Kelley.  At an early age, she was adopted by Donald and Pearl Bain, and they moved to Colorado, then New Mexico, and eventually ended up in South Pasadena, CA.  Marilyn lived in California until her senior year of high school when the family moved back to Grantsburg.
Marilyn married Lloyd Kallman on July 4 th , 1964, in a little church in North Branch, MN.  Lloyd was her husband and best friend for nearly 55 years.  From their marriage came a daughter, Kimberly, and a son, Kenneth.  Marilyn was a graduate of Grantsburg High School in 1964, and then graduated as an LPN in 1972 from Superior Technical College.  She worked at St. Croix Regional Hospital in St. Croix Falls, WI.
Marilyn loved her horses. She bought her first Appaloosa in the late ‘60s and still owned an Appaloosa at the time of her passing.  During her showing career, Marilyn won numerous high point and regional awards, which included High Point in the National Appaloosa Trail Horse and Canadian National Appaloosa Showmanship.  In later years, she enjoyed knitting, photography, and supporting and participating in the Diabetes Bicycle Rides.
Thanks to the generosity of Mike and Jennifer Isaac, who for many years provided a home for Marilyn and Lloyd in Arizona during the winter months, Marilyn and Lloyd were able to escape the cold winters in Wisconsin, and spend time with their Arizona friends during her illness.
Her granddaughter, and only grandchild, Paige, was her greatest joy.  Marilyn loved watching Paige sing in the choir, play drums in the band, play hockey in a cold ice rink, and show Grandma’s horses all summer long.  They enjoyed numerous travels together.  Their favorite trips included the Redwood Forest in California and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Later in life, Marilyn was reunited with her birth parents, and they continued their relationships for the remainder of their lives.
Marilyn’s strong faith in God, as well as the love and support of her friends at Bethany Lutheran Church, Pastor Jay, and the prayers from friends and family were great reassurance that God would be by her side throughout her illness.
Marilyn and I would like to thank the doctors and nurses from Saint Croix Valley Medical Center and University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson for caring for Marilyn during her 13-year battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Pearl Bain, biological parents Lorraine Nelson and Tom Kelley, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anne and Donald Kallman, sister-in-law, Kay Kallman, and several friends from the Affirming Life (cancer) Support Group.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd; daughter, Kimberly Johnson (Jim), son, Kenneth Kallman (Helen); granddaughter, Paige Johnson; siblings, Beverly Finch-Trebatowski, Connie Rickard (John), Rick Nelson (Romey), Teresa Hartlep (Jesse), Roberta Morrow (Ron), Katherine Kelley, Paul Kelley (Lynne), Daniel Kelley, Brandan Ballou, brother-in-law, David Kallman; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11:00 a.m.,  at Bethany Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, WI.  Pastor Jay Ticknor will be officiating.
