Margaret Lorraine (Anderson) Hayner, originally of Falun, WI, passed away peacefully at her home in Deerfield, IL, on Saturday, December 12, 2015. She had celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and friends on Oct. 23rd. Margaret was born in Falun on October 23, 1915, to parents, Edward John Anderson and Mary Concelia (Johnson) Anderson. She attended Falun Grade School for eight years and graduated after four years from Grantsburg High School. As a graduation gift in June 1933, Margaret went to Chicago, IL, to see the World’s Fair. She stayed with friends, found a job, and made the Chicago area her permanent home. She returned to Falun often to visit her parents and family, which included brothers: Lawrence, Spencer, Gerald and Wesley; and sister, Helen. In 1942, during World War II, Margaret went to Los Angeles, CA, with her parents, her sister Helen and her brother Spencer. They rented a house and found jobs. Her father and Spencer worked for a Navy Shipping Co. Helen worked for the California bank and took accounting courses at night school. Margaret worked as a bridal consultant through the Robinson Department Store, helping with lots of weddings. In 1944, friends Ben and Ellen Moline, who owned “Sweden House” restaurant in Chicago, wanted to semi-retire and asked Margaret to come back and be the manager. She accepted and was there until 1946, when she married Simeon Hayner of New York in January of 1946. She met Simeon in 1941, when he was in the Navy and stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago. The Molines eventually retired to a home outside Webster, WI, which they called “Tallbacka” because of its large, beautiful pine trees. Margaret and Simeon had two children, Helen and S. Edward. They lived in Highland Park, IL, a Chicago suburb, after buying a house in 1953. After Simeon died in 1966, Margaret stayed in Highland Park until she bought a home in nearby Deerfield in 1977. Margaret was president of the Highland Park-Ravinia chapter of the Chicago Infant Welfare for three years from 1997 to 1999, served as vice president in 2000-2001, and as treasurer in 2001. She was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church for many years and subsequently joined the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, where she continued as a member for 38 years until her death. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Helen (Hayner) Kuhl (Tom); her son Ed Hayner; granddaughters, Gabrielle Kuhl Ruiter (Matt) and Ashlee Kuhl Rauen (Dave); grandson. Eric Hayner; great-grandson, Jesse Ruiter; and great-granddaughter, Margaret Ruiter. A private ceremony and interment will be held Jan. 4, 2016, at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg.
