Luella Guetschow

May 24, 1912 — July 20, 2008

Luella V. Guetschow, 96, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital of Superior with her family at her side after a lengthy illness. She was born May 24, 1912 to Walter and Mary (Gneupel) Reese of Ada, Minnesota. She married Clarence Guetschow in 1930 and resided in Superior, Wisconsin and later moved to Danbury, Wisconsin. She then moved back to Superior where she lived with her daughter, Evelyn until the time of her death. Luella was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, a past member of the Pansy Homemakers Club in Danbury. She was also President of the Aging Resources of Senior Citizens in Danbury and a former Sunday school teacher. Luella was a talented artist with water color. Her paintings of wildlife and outdoors were exhibited in several art shows. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mary Reese, her husband of 43 years Clarence Guetschow, son-in-law Robert Hagen, daughter-in-law Joyce Guetschow, brothers Ralph and Ivan Reese, and sisters Gladys Thompson and Betty Marcellus. Survivors include daughter Evelyn Hagen of Superior and on son Walter Guetschow of Flagstaff, Arizona, 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren with one more expected in August, brother Melvin (Carol) Reese, brother-in-law Jim Marcellus of Iowa, sister-in-law Ethel Reese of Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Superior on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00AM with Pastor Gary Garnatz officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Danbury Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Neil, Jerry, and Mike Hagen, Duane and David Guetschow and Gary Hunter. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. If friends so desire, memorials can be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church or St. Mary's Hospital of Superior-Hospice Program.
