Lloyd D. Steeg, age 96 1/2 years of Webster, WI died Friday, July 4, 2008 after a short stay in the Frederic Nursing & Rehab, Frederic, WI. Lloyd was born to West W. Steeg and Margaret Bergetta (Peterson) on a homestead near Moffit, N.D. on February 2, 1912. He grew up near Driscoll, N.D. until the age of 14. He left the state driving a wagon and team 500 miles to Sioux City, Iowa. He worked in the brick yard, railroad, farming, and hardware store among other jobs. He married Minnie May Kruithoff on March 18, 1939. His son, Cary Edward was born in 1940. Lloyd trapped beaver, hunted, and farmed to be able to move to Webster in March 1942. Lloyd's son, Wesley Wayne was born in 1944. Lloyd moved to his dairy farm on Connor's Lake in November 1947. He milked gurnseys. Twin daughters, Barbara Ellen and Betty Ann were born in 1960. Lloyd retired in 1980, selling the last cow in 1989. Lloyd enjoyed gardening, wood working, writing poems, and entering the county fairs. Most recently he won two blue ribbons on his poems and a "Best of the Fair" plaque for his bird carvings at the Central Burnett County Fair in Webster 2008. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Rex, Ed, Lowel, Milt, sister Lillian Christian. Lloyd is survived by his wife Minnie, children Cary (Elaine) of Finlayson, MN, Wesley of Viola, MT, Barbara and Betty of Grantsburg, grandsons Timothy (Betty) of Moose Lake, MN, Barry (Linda) of Gillette, WY, and Shawn of San Diego, CA, great grandchildren Jake, Zane, Britany, Kaylee, Thomas, Keely, and Laura. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home with Gene Olson officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Rand, David Wade, Tim Steeg, Barry Steeg, Shawn Steeg, and Joe Connor. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, Wisconsin.
