Kyle Cleon Phernetton (Abinoojii), age 27, of Hertel, WI, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016. Born in Shell Lake, WI, on April 10, 1989, Kyle was son of Valerie J. (McFaggen) and Randy I. Phernetton. He attended public schools in Shell Lake, and was a 2007 graduate of Shell Lake High School. Kyle enjoyed playing sports and loved to dance. He made friends easily; many became Kyle’s friends for life. Kyle was a member of Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, and has direct descent from the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe. For the past seven years, Kyle had been an active member of the TRAILS Dance Troupe for the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe, and was involved with local parades, and the annual Wild Rice Pow Wow and Festivals. Kyle was very into dancing. As a grass dancer, he traveled with the dance team to many places including Japan, the Bahamas, Alaska, Utah, and various pow wows. Kyle had also competed in the Alaska Eskimo-Indian Olympics and won two gold medals. He is survived by his parents, Randy and Valerie Phernetton; a son, Cleon Edward Phernetton; his life-partner, Maryjane Tucker; two brothers, Jack McFaggen and Rob Phernetton; a sister, Amanda Dowty; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation was held starting at 3:00pm, Monday, December 5, 2016, at the St. Croix Tribal Center in Hertel, WI. The funeral service was conducted at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Tribal Center with Elder David Merrill (Maabin) presiding. Burial was in Sand Lake Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Ryan DeCorrah, Robin Johnson, Mark Stoner, Jim Barber, Jeremy Lambert, and Eugene Johnson. Honorary bearers are Jack McFaggen, Robert Phernetton, Rocky Phernetton, Martin Johnson III, Gerald Johnson, and Kyle Bauer. Arrangements were entrusted with Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, WI.
