Joyce Meyers

Joyce A. Meyers passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Grantsburg. Joyce was born in Coomer, Wisconsin to August and Janet Skuza on February 16, 1933. Joyce attended Coomer schools through the eighth grade. She had five sisters and talked about the depression years, as well as the good times. Later on in years, she spoke of the many dances in Hertel, where she met Ray Mortensen from Shell Lake, Wisconsin. Joyce and Ray married in Pine City Minnesota on August 2, 1952. Ray Jr. and Sherri were born to this union and they later moved back to Coomer to run the family farm. In addition to dancing, Joyce enjoyed sewing, a good garage sale, gardening and canning her harvest. Joyce worked at the Yo-Yo factory in Frederic for awhile and later at Northstates Wood Products where she retired after 25 years. Joyce spent her last years few years as a resident of Burnett County Medical Continued Care Center where her family acknowledged she was well taken care of and supported by the staff. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; Janet and August, her son; Ray Jr., and her sisters; Lorraine Krueger, Dorothy Mack and June Nightingale. She will be sadly missed by her daughter; Sherri (Dave) Mortensen, and her sisters; Shirley Pax, and Phyllis Tschida and many nieces and nephews. A graveside committal will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Lorain Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Krueger officiating.
