Joyce Lener

Joyce L. Lener, age 79, a resident of Grantsburg passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Burnett Medical Center Continuing Care Center.

Joyce was born on April 18, 1941 in West Sweden, Polk County, Wisconsin to Ervin L. and Lillian L. Carlson.

Joyce grew up in the Grantsburg area and attended school in Grantsburg where she met the love of her life, Bert (Mike) Lener. They were married on March 2, 1963 and shared six children together. It is fitting that this date in March also marked the date of Joyce’s next meeting with Mike on what would have been their 58th Wedding Anniversary.

In 1980, the family returned to the Grantsburg area after having lived in several locations around Minnesota. In 1992, they sold everything and purchased a fifth wheel trailer beginning their adventure traveling the U.S. It was their dream, and they lived it.

Joyce had numerous hobbies such as photography, sewing, ceramics, reading and of course traveling, just to name a few and when she started a hobby, she was all in!

Joyce had a contagious smile that made her entire face light up and her eyes sparkle. She will be forever missed by her children, Roxsanne (Al) Opse, Lillian (Mike) Lindus, Brenda (Paul) Peterson, Kim Lener, Sandy (Scott) Johnson, Bert (Jeanette) Lener; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and dear friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike Lener; grandson, Nick Opse; brother, Johnny Knutson; sisters, Florence Smith and Marion Doolittle. She is survived by her brothers Bill Knutson and Ken Knutson and her sister Ruby Knutson.

A memorial service for both Mike and Joyce Lener will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 12:00 PM (visitation 11-12) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Grantsburg with Pastor Steve Jennisch officiating. Music will be provided by Joe Lener. An internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg followed by a luncheon at T’Dawg’s.
