John Lamar McCune, age 101, a resident of Grantsburg, WI., passed away on March 8, 2024 at the Burnett Medical Continuing Care Center.
John was born on February 11, 1923, in West Tulsa, Oklahoma to John H. and Whilhelmina McCune. The family later moved to the Webster area where John worked for room and board so that he could attend high school. He later married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Katherine Anderson. John lived in Oklahoma, Webster, Wisconsin, Oregon, Wyoming, during the depression, Oakland Township on Yellow Lake and finally settling in the Grantsburg area.
John worked as a tax assessor, a World Book salesman, farmed and was employed at Parker Hannifin.
John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, bee keeping, berry picking and exploring old homesteads on DNR land. He had a love of steam engines and picking arbutus, a protected flower for his family ladies for Mother’s Day. John was an elder and long time member at Wood River Christian Fellowship Church.
John was blessed with an angel, Alice Ramsdell who cared for him for the past 17 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothea; sister, Dorothy and great grandson, Lucas.
He is survived by his children, Ken (Peggy) McCune, Carolyn (Jim) Johnson, Diann (Dave) Muhs, and Kevin McCune; grandchildren, Jeremy, Adam (Robin), Chris (Sarah), Jamie, Amy (Jason), Leroy, Barbara, Megan (Bronson) and Emily; great grandchildren, Broden, Isak, Lachlan, Henrik, Nils, Jace, Logan and Harlo; along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM (visitation 1-2 PM) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken McCune, Kevin McCune, Jeremy McCune, Chris Johnson, Jamie Johnson and Adam McCune.
