John Fallstrom

April 15, 1939 — January 21, 2016

John "Butch" Allen Fallstrom, with his family by his side, passed away on January 21st, 2016 in Grantsburg Wisconsin, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Grantsburg on April 15th, 1939 to Johnny and Esther (Helland) Fallstrom, Butch grew up in Falun Wisconsin, and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1957. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Brunswick, Georgia. Butch married Janice Soderbeck on December 7, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Falun. Butch's trucking career started very early, before he even had his driver’s license, at age 14, for Falun Lumber. He drove until the business moved to Grantsburg where he owned and operated his own trucking company, Grantsburg-Falun Lumber. He worked there until he retired in 2000. After he retired he enjoyed frequent trips on the train traveling all over the United States and Canada. In 2012, Butch decided he needed a new hobby to keep busy, so he bought a saw mill at the age of 72 and worked at his mill until recently. He had many hobbies including hunting and fishing, which were two of his favorites throughout his life. Butch took many trips to Canada - walleye fishing. It's also where he got his first full set of teeth. Butch is survived by his wife, Janice; brother, Curt (Sue) Fallstrom; son, Jeff (Penny) Fallstrom; daughters, Janyl (Richard) Friese and Jodi (Don) Whalen; grandchildren: Krista, Marissa, Kaelyn, John, Keith, Ashley, Nikki, Lindsey, and Robert; and great-grandchildren: Aiden, Alexis, Mason, and Ellie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Esther Fallstrom; and great-grandson, Jameson Gordon. A celebration of Butch's life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Falun on Saturday, January 23rd 2016. Visitation will start at 12:30pm followed by a service at 2:30pm with Pastor Mike Kleven officiating and assisted by Associate Pastor Steve Ward. Full military honors will conclude the service. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner WI, at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers are: John Dahlberg, Joe Yira, Mikal Helland, James Helland, Mike Parker, John Fallstrom, Keith Friese, and Robert Whalen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Falun, 23661 Range Line Rd, Siren WI 54872.
