Joanne (Prell) Coleman, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin on November 11, 2020.
She was born on October 31, 1945 in Siren, Wisconsin to parents, Jim and Mabel Prell. Joanne attended grade school in Danbury, Wisconsin and graduated from Webster High School in Webster, Wisconsin in 1963. She then attended University of Wisconsin, River Falls and in 1967 earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Teaching and Communicative Disorders. That same year she married Orlo Coleman, April 8, in the Danbury Methodist Church in Danbury, WI. Joanne worked for the Luck School District as a Speech Therapist for 40 years. During this time, they built their forever home in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, had 2 children, and she earned her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology (1979).
While her children were young, Joanne filled her spare time with volunteering at the Balsam Lake library, singing in a Vocal Group called The Dominant 7th, and belonged to the Balsam Lake Study Club, where they organized the first Balsam Lake Glass Recycling site. the Village Queen’s Teas and started the Senior Citizen’s traveling group.
Joanne enjoyed planning family trips, visiting grandparents and family members and had a group of friends that enjoyed picnics, dinner parties, canoe trips, and many potlucks. In later years Joanne spent her time caring for grandchildren and watching them grow, always being present to watch Sunday school programs, band and choir concerts, and sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mabel Prell and her brother, James (Bud) Prell.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Orlo Coleman, her daughter, Dawn (Todd) Schultz, and son, Dave (Jodi) Coleman, along with grandchildren, Grace and Anna Schultz, Carter Schwalen, Dawson, Kendall, and Reese Coleman. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie McKee, sisters-in-law, Joan Prell, Isla (Ron) Fitchner and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
A special thanks to the staff of The St Croix Hospice for their care and support. A private service was held for the immediate family on November 20, 2020 at the Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster, Wisconsin. Burial followed at the Danbury Cemetery, in Danbury, Wisconsin. A Celebration of Life for Joanne will take place in the spring. All arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, Wisconsin.
