Jerome Gluheisen

July 12, 1931 — July 5, 2021

Jerome (Jerry) J. Gluheisen passed away July 5th, 2021. He was born July 12th, 1931 in Webster, Wisconsin to Otto and Florence (Branger) Gluheisen. He grew up on the family’s farm southwest of Webster and spent most of his adult life there. He attended grade school at the Krueger country school south of Webster and graduated from Webster High School.

In September of 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served overseas in England as a radio teletype operator. He was honorably discharged in January of 1955. Upon discharge he returned home to Webster where he met and married Irene Holmberg. To this union four children were born. He attended Dunwoody Technical Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota to become an electrician. After graduating he started his own business, Jerry’s Electric, doing residential and commercial wiring. In 1968 he was employed by Northwestern Wisconsin Electric Company as a lineman. He retired as a foreman from there in 1993.

Jerry loved everything about the outdoors and spent a great deal of his time fishing and hunting or just simply walking to be outside. He loved strolling the dikes of the Amsterdam Sloughs near his home with his dog Daisy by his side. In the winter he would snowshoe the frozen sloughs looking for wolf tracks. He loved camping with his family, tapping a few trees to make maple syrup and birdwatching. He and Irene loved to make an annual trip to Two Rivers, Wisconsin for the fall salmon run.

Jerry was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Florence; his wife, Irene; sister Lucille and grandson Conor.

He is survived by his children; Karen (Gary) Knafla; Linda (Brad) Spafford; Laura (Mike) McLaughlin and Jeff (Jeanann) Gluheisen; grandchildren Travis, Matthew, Bradley, Michael, Jessica, Nick, Stacy, Jeremy and Faith as well as ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of memorials, please consider a donation in Jerry’s memory to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (pva.org) or the ALS Foundation (als.org).

Per Jerry’s wishes there will be a family celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. Online condolences can be made at www.swedberg-taylor.com.
