Jeri Pearson

October 24, 1952 — June 19, 2015

Jeri Pearson, age 62, an educator and human rights advocate, died June 19, 2015, after a traffic accident in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 24, 1952, Jeri grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She met her husband, Marty, while they were undergraduates at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. The two married in 1973 and later moved to Cozy Corner, Wisconsin. They built a log home where Marty and Jeri raised their two children, Roberto and Erica. Jeri taught Spanish for more than thirty years at Webster and Solon Springs schools, and served as a human rights observer in rural Guatemala, where she returned often, working to improve access to education. An avid gardener, she grew and preserved enough food each year to feed her family through the cold winter months. Jeri was a loving wife, a proud mother and even prouder grandmother. She was a devoted daughter and sister, and a caring aunt. She was also a dear friend to many. She is survived by her husband, Marty; her daughter, Erica, and son-in-law, Edward; and her granddaughter, Elise; her parents, Robert and Lyla (Nelson) Elofson; and three brothers: Paul, Tim and Steve. Her son, Roberto, was killed in a construction accident in May of 2008. The memorial service honoring the life of Jeri Pearson will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Northland Community Center - Cozy Corner. A time of fellowship will be held prior to and after the service, including a fellowship luncheon. Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Webster, WI, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
