Jeanette Julia Marie (Gronlund) Renno, of Luck, Wis., resident of the United Pioneer Home for the last six years, passed away on Nov. 14, 2013. Jeanette was born Dec, 25, 1917, at home, to Arnt and Hulda (Petersen) Gronlund in the town of Laketown. She attended the Alabama school near Atlas, Wis., where she learned to speak English, having spoken Swedish and Norwegian at home. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Trade Lake, where she later was organist and choir director. She graduated from Luck High School. She worked as a telephone operator in Luck and then moved to Portland, Ore., and worked at the switchboard at the Multnomah Hotel, where she met Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower and other famous people and where she also met her soon-to-be husband. She married Cecil Frank Renno April 17, 1949 in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. They raised their four children in the Pacific Northwest, and moved back to Wisconsin in 1973. Jeanette was a kind and loving person. She loved to laugh, and taught her children to laugh with her. She enjoyed life and always wanted to help people. She was an awesome mother-in-law. She was a skilled seamstress and a great cook. She loved music, and played the organ in her spare time. She was a great storyteller, and often talked about her childhood on the farm. She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Archer, and sons, Jerry (Judy), Jim (Sue), and Frank (Kris) Renno; 12 grandchildren, Tahirah, Joshua and Zach; Jennifer, Jesse. Jeffrey and Justin, Luke and Naomi, and Caleb, Anna and Sam; and 16 great-grandchildren; cousin, David Peterson, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, in 2003; brother, Russell; and younger sister, Marie Caroline, who died in childhood; and many cousins and friends. There will be a funeral gathering Thursday, Nov. 21, at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Siren, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Zion Lutheran Church of Trade Lake. Pallbearers will be Jim Renno, Frank Renno, Luke Renno, Jerry Renno, Coby Russell and Charlie Gronlund. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Family Funeral Home, Webster.
