Jared Dwight Colsrud (Baadwewidang), age 45, a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 Born in Sandstone, MN, on December 24, 1970, Jared was a son of the late Gladys M. (Bedauskey) and John D. Colsrud. Following his high school education, he received technical training in electronics. Jared married Renee Ann De Vaughn in 2005, exactly eleven years prior to his death. An artist of acrylics, Jared created paintings, and designed leather and jewelry items, reflecting historical and modern tribal life. He had been previously employed as a bouncer at Rocky’s on county FF near Webster, WI, and had worked as an electronics technician at the casino in Hinckley, MN. Jared was a fervent Minnesota Vikings fan. He was an active supporter of the Wildlife Rescue Center in Siren, WI. He was a very good cook, and he enjoyed fishing, including ice fishing, and deer hunting. He was also an excellent card player, quite the card shark. Jared had a great personality. He was amiable and warm, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved being with family and friends, and always made visitors feel very welcome in his home. Jared truly had a Heart of Gold. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Colsrud; sister, Margaret Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Marrinda & Robert French; and stepson, Shawn Ellis. Jared is survived by his wife, Renee; children: Timothy Comes-Flying, Shaena Colsrud, and Amber Colsrud; step-children: Edward (Jenny) De Vaughn, Michael (Lisa) Ellis, James Ellis, and Steven (Nikki) Ellis; and multiple grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: John (Kathryn) Colsrud, James Colsrud, Rosalie Hallaway, Catherine Colsrud, and Jason Colsrud; brother-in-law, George Johnson; as well as many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held starting AT 6:00pm, Tuesday evening, December 6, 2016, at the Lake Lena -Aazhoomog Community Center, 45749 Grace Lake Road, Sandstone, MN, 55072. The funeral service will be conducted beginning at 10:00am, Wednesday, December 7th, at the Lake Lena -Aazhoomog Community Center with Elder Lee Staples (Obizaan) presiding. Burial will be in Lake Lena Cemetery. Casket bearers are: Wally St. John, Edward De Vaughn, Michael Ellis, Edward St. John, Steve St. John, and Jason Colsrud. Honorary bearers are: John Colsrud, James Colsrud, James Ellis III, Steven Ellis, Gerald Trepczyk, Stanley St. John, Jeff Aubele, Ben St. John, and Jody Clark.
