James W. “Jim” McCain, age 78, of Webster, WI, passed away at his home on Thursday morning, May 21, 2015. Jim was born in Superior, WI, on September 25, 1936, a son of the late James W. and Ruby (Hoosier) McCain, Sr. He attended local public schools there, and was a 1955 graduate of Superior Central High School. On October 27, 1956, Jim married Marjorie A. Swonger in Superior. Jim worked initially for Commutator Foundry Co. and then for the building contractor, M.A. Mortenson Company. The majority of his employment was with the City of Minneapolis, Public Works Dept. He was responsible for assisting with water and sewer projects, and later Jim helped prepare city streets and roads for resurfacing. He was a member of Construction and General Laborers’ Union locals 132 and 563. During these years, Jim and Marjorie lived in Minneapolis and Coon Rapids, MN, as well as Frederic, WI. They moved to Webster upon his retirement in 1999. Jim enjoyed woodworking, especially building bird houses and butt houses. He loved being outdoors, and received a great deal of pleasure boating and water skiing, fishing, and deer hunting. In his youth, he enjoyed grouse hunting. Though Jim could be gruff at times, underneath he had a soft heart. He was a loyal family man, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby McCain; three sisters: Bonnie Day, Myrtle McCain, and Harriet Shyman; and brothers-in-law, Tony Shyman and Jim Lancour. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie A. McCain; children: James A. (Barb) McCain, John A. (Terri) McCain, Laurie (Robert) Robinson, and Jerome W. McCain; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Lancour; and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, the family will have a celebration of Jim’s life June 13,2015 from 1-4pm at 26469 Musky Ave Webster, Wisconsin.
