Irmina “Irma” Anna Sundquist of Grantsburg, age 101, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020.
Irma was born on November 10, 1919 in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota to Christian and Elizabeth Weinzierl.
Irma’s home always had mouthwatering aromas coming from the kitchen. She loved being in the kitchen cooking and baking goodies for family and friends, especially during the holidays. She was also known for her large garden where she would enjoy fresh vegetables all summer until canning in the fall.
Irma was an active member of the Grantsburg Women’s Club. She worked hard during the 1960’s to raise funds for the new hospital and clinic. Having pie socials on the courthouse lawn was just one of many fundraising opportunities.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles E. “Swede” Sundquist; daughter, Diane Vacinek; brothers, Roman, Victor, Quentin, Robert and Paul; sisters Betty (Percy) Riley and Rita (Jack) Smith.
Irma is survived by sons, Charles E. Sundquist, Jr., and Douglas “Smiley” (Cathryn) "Katie" Sundquist; son in law, Robert Vacinek, grandchildren, Terri, David and Michael Sundquist; Stephen, Elisa and Greg Vacinek; and Donnie and R.J. Bruner; great grandchildren, Eva, Mason, Jack, Nick, Tatiana, Hunter, Meghan, Tyler, and Ryan; sister, Arlene Weinzierl; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
