Hartley Mervin Hedberg, age 93, passed away on September 3, 2024 at the Burnett Medical Center.
Hartley was born on March 11, 1931 to Hildor and Minnie Hedberg in Grantsburg, WI.
Hartley spent his early years around Grantsburg and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War. After returning home from the service, he met and married Alice Olson from Falun on April 19, 1958, to this union 3 children were born.
They moved to St. Paul, MN in 1958 where Hartley attended Vocational Trade School for 2 years.
In 1966 they built a new home and moved to Roseville, MN. Hartley worked for Honeywell for 33 years, retiring in 1994. In 1996 they moved to their lake home on Big Wood Lake.
Hartley loved working in the yard, mowing the grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and feeding the birds, working in his garden, and sharing his harvest. He loved bowling and golfing on leagues in the Twin Cities with co-workers from Honeywell. After moving back to Grantsburg, he loved golfing with family and friends and the senior league on Wednesday mornings at the Grantsburg Golf Course. Hartley loved watching sports on TV, especially golf and football.
Hartley was a member of the Grantsburg American Legion, Landmark Masonic Lodge in Frederic, Osman Shrine in St. Paul, MN, Wild River Shrine Club, and Eastern Star, so many wonderful, cherished memories.
Hartley is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gladys (Albert) McLain, Audrey (Curtis) Weden, Betty (Allan) Jarchow, Gwen (Harley) Olson; brothers, LeRoy (Maryls), Dudley (Marlene) and Ray Hedberg; daughter, Kim Marie Bohen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice; sons, Scott and Jeff (Sue) Hedberg; son-in-law, Dan Bohen; brother, Charles (Sally); sister-in-law, Barb Hedberg; grandchildren, Nick Hedberg, Sarah (Max) Oetting, Ashley (Greg) Koch, Justin (Jess), Christopher, Cortney and Danny Bohen, Ron and Melissa. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, relative and friends.
The memorial service for Hartley will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM (visitation from 2-3 pm) at Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, WI with Pastor John Addison Officiating and Military Honors following the service . A dinner will follow the service at T-Dawgs Bar & Grill.
The family would especially like to thank St. Croix Hospice and the Continuing Care Center at BMC for all the wonderful care of Hartley during his final days.
