Grant “Butch” N. Harmon , age 73, of Grantsburg, WI., passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Burnett Medical Continuing Care Center. Butch was born on September 11, 1943 in Greenwood, MI., to parents, Dora (Nordstrom) and Nelson Harmon. He attended Grantsburg Public Schools until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1961. He graduated with his G.E.D from the United States Armed Forces Institute in 1963. While in the military, Butch married Pat Glass and had two children, Elizabeth and Rod. They later divorced, but have remained friends. Butch was honorably discharged on February 7, 1964. After the army, Butch had several jobs. He worked for Rolite Trailers in Grantsburg, WI. He also was a machinist at special parts in Prior lake MN., and was employed at Northern Manufacturing until he could no longer work due to health issues. Butch married Sandra Dessner on May 9, 1984. After their marriage, Butch adopted Sandra’s children as his own, Curtis and Sarah in 1985 and granddaughter, McKenzie in 2005. Butch enjoyed being involved in the Grace Baptist Church Men’s Group. The also served as an Awana Leader and treasurer for the church. Butch liked to work on cars and you could often find him in the garage tinkering on a few different projects. He also liked to spend time outside gardening, fishing and hunting. Above all else, Butch truly loved the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. Preceding Butch in death are his parents, Nelson Harmon and Dora (Paul) Harp. Butch is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sandra; children: Elizabeth Meyer, Rod Harmon, Curtis Harmon and Sarah (Dayton) Fate; grandchildren: Amanda, Trent, Tadd, Kiley, Grant, McKenzie, Kamrin, Autumn, Carter, Olivia, Andrew and Paisley; great-granddaughter, Scarlet; siblings: Marlys Anderson, Lucille (Terry) Berger, Arvid (Debbie) Harmon, Marilyn (Ray) Metz ; father and mother-in-law, Richard (Mavis) Dessner; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Randy (Mary) Dessner, Susan (Raymond) Northway, June (Jim) Barnick, Barb (Patrick) Fitzgerald, Linda (Lester) Wohlfiel and Bill (Missy) Dessner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 12:00pm (visitation from 11:00am – 12:00pm) at the Grace Baptist Church in Grantsburg, WI. Full military honors will be held immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
