Gerald Soderbeck

Gerald Allen Soderbeck (Jerry), age 77 passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Gerald was born December 14, 1936 on a family farm in Grantsburg, Wisconsin to William and Alice (Johnson) Soderbeck. He was baptized at the Wood River Church at Wood Lake, and graduate of Grantsburg High School in 1954. On October 29, 1960 he married Arline at the Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, Minnesota. Jerry worked as a river and fishing guide at Nelsons Resort on the St. Croix river during his teen years and following high school, entered service in the Air Force for 4 years before being honorably discharged in November 1957. He also worked at McNally's; Scott-Atwater Motor Company; Northland Electric; Federal Cartridge; and with his father at Grantsburg Electric. After moving back to Grantsburg in 1968, he also became a part time officer for the Grantsburg Police Department. He was elected the Burnett County Sheriff from 1973-1978. After being sheriff, he went back to carpentry, electrical work, and maintenance in the National Park Service, Aggressive Industries, and as a self employed businessman but also was the Grantsburg Township Constable for many years. He was a member the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Zurah Shrine Temple as well as a member of the Grantsburg Lions club for many years. He was a founding member of the Sno-Baron's snowmobile club in the twin cities. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family. Jerry is survived by his wife Arline, children Allen (Nancy) Soderbeck, Cheryl ( Steve) Coy; grandchildren Emily (Carlo) Franco, Lindsey (Kyle) Johnson, Kellen (Teresa) Olsen, William Soderbeck, Carinna Coy, and Andrew Coy; great grandchildren, Lane Franco, Adeline Johnson; brother Dale (Pat) Soderbeck; sisters Janice (Butch) Fallstrom, Dianne Plaine; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Alice Soderbeck and son Craig. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 2:00 PM (visitation from 12-2 PM) at Grace Baptist Church in Grantsburg, Wisconsin with Rev. Roger Inouye. Music will be provided by Joe Lener and Ann Bell. Pallbearers will be William Soderbeck, Andrew Coy, Kellen Olsen, Larry Soderbeck, Mike McCabe and Steven Fritze. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Soderbeck and Steve Coy. Arrangements were made by Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home Grantsburg Chapel. Online condolences can be made at www.swedberg-taylor.com
