George "Mick" Sears, age 78, a longtime resident of Webster died March 12, 2015. Mick was born September 25, 1936 in DePere, Wisconsin to George, Sr. and Evelyn Scoville. While growing up he attended schools in the St. Paul area including St. Matthew, Sibley Jr. High, and Murray High School. He also attended Highline High School in Burien, Washington before returning to Webster. In 1954, Mick graduated from Webster High School before enlisting in the US Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1957. After his return from the service, he married his high school sweetheart Vida on October 19, 1957 in Webster. Mick then went on to the University of Wisconsin-Superior to further his education. Mick was a probation officer with the Burnett County Court system for 6 years before starting his longtime career in banking. He started at First Bank in Grantsburg which is now US Bank and later became manager of both Siren and Webster locations. After 23 years he was forced to retire due to disability issues. Mick being the likable guy he was he enjoyed people and wasn't ready to completely retire yet, so he owned and operated the Siren Used Car Lot for 5 years and also provided guardian services to numerous clients for many years. Mick was very active in the community and always getting involved with local service groups. He served on the Village Board for 4 years, the Webster School Board for 6 years, the County Board for 4 and was a member of the CEP for Burnett County for 20 years as of 2011. He was also an active member of the local American Legion Post and the VFW. With all that, he did make time for the things he enjoyed to do in his free time like golf, hunting, hockey and most importantly spending time with his family. His big smile and warm heart will be missed by all who knew him. Mick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gary and Jerrold; and step father Connie Guerino. He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend Vida; children Brian (Gaelyn), Shaune (Shawn) George, III and our Brazilian son Euler (Nivea); grandchildren Greg (Serena) Sears, Matt (Maggie) Fisher, Trent (Cate) Holec, Alyssa Fisher, Megan Sears, Jeff (Lainie) Sears, and Joshua Sears; great grandchildren Malique, Mia, Kendall, Landon, Reid, Brayden, Jaxson, Kayle and Leo. Also survived by his brothers Darroll (Jean), Ernest, and Gregg; special family Jean Sandberg and her sons Mitchell and Corey; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A time of gathering to remember Mick will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
