Gene graduated in 1960 from Patrick Heny High School in Minneapolis, MN. He enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduation. He was granted a Hardship/Honorable Discharge after the death of his father and he returned home to help his family run the small family grocery store in No. Mpls.
Gene spent many years involved in the Masonic organization. He is a past Master of Plymouth Lodge in Minneapolis, MN. He was deeply involved with the Job's Daughters, Bethel 84 of Minneapolis, with both Kari and Heather. He spent countless hours participating in Job's Daughters function and acting as the Associate Guardian for several years for Bethel 84. Dale, Joel and Gene were also involved with the Demolay. In his later years, he became involved with the Scottish Rite, mentoring younger members just beginning their Masonic journey.
Throughout his life, Gene enjoyed spending time with his family the most. Whether it was packing the car with kids and camping gear to go camping, loading the go-cart on a trailer and finding an empty parking lot to let the kids ride, or getting everyone out to go Square Dancing, he made sure that everyone spent time together and had fun.
While Gene enjoyed his free time, he also taught his children the value of hard work. Gene and Gayle owned and operated a small engraving business that he ran out of his basement. He engraved name badges and tags for clubs and organizations around the Twin Cities. Each kid always had a job to do and he made sure that "work" was done, before we could "play".
Gene will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life and Masonic service will be held:
