Gene Dale Smiley Anderson, 80 of Webster, WI passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024. In his final hours Gene watched the Super Bowl surrounded by loved ones and telling stories of his life up until his last moments.
Gene was the only child of parents Darell and Mildred Anderson born in Laramie Wyoming on March 19th, 1943.
Gene was named after country and western legends Gene Autry, Dale Evans and Smiley Burnette.
Gene loved Wyoming, horses and growing up a cowboy. He spent his summers in Minnesota and Wisconsin with his extended family.
When Gene was around 10 his family moved from Wyoming back to Coon Rapids Minnesota to be around his beloved family.
Gene attended Anoka High School where he graduated in 1962. Gene played basketball and was in Future Farmers of America, but gave that up for a job as he needed gas money to go see his sweetie !
Gene met his wife Mary on a blind date in 1960. They dated through high school, and married in August of 1962.
In 1968 they bought a house in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and 2 years later welcomed their only child Kelly into the world in July of 1970.
In 1968 Gene took over the property on Warner Lake in Webster WI , from his parents . They were a young couple with a baby and new house, but Gene loved the area from his childhood so he worked hard to provide a cabin get a way for his family.
Gene worked as a warehouse man at what would ultimately become Unisource Paper Co. He worked there for 35 plus years until he retired in 2004.
Over the years Gene had put his many skills to work building a house for he and Mary to retire in on Warner Lake.
Gene and Mary enjoyed many years of retirement and watching their family come together and make memories in the place Gene loved.
Gene was a loving and doting husband, a hands on and fun, but stern dad, and a supportive and caring grandpa who loved to share his knowledge and stories of his life.
He was survived by his wife of 61 years Mary, his daughter Kelly ( Chris ) of Webster WI and his grandson CJ of Webster, WI.
Services will be held on Saturday May 4th, 2024 at 1pm at the White Pines Cemetery in Webster, WI.
A celebration of life and luncheon will follow at the Lodge in Siren WI.
