Florence Delight Tessmer, 83, formerly of Siren, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 12:15 pm. She was born in Siren on February 3, 1931 then lived her life in surrounding communities until recently when she moved to Fresno, California to be with one of her sons in the final months. She was raised on a farm by her parents, the late Harrison M. and Anna (Carlson) Dake along with siblings Larry Dake, Walter Dake, and Margaret Westland. In stories told she recalled childhood experiences of milking cows before school, miles of walking to school in all types of weather, and the occasional sleigh rides on extreme snowy mornings. On June 12, 1950 in Lindstrom, MN, she married Jerome Tessmer whom she shared life with until his passing May 30, 1991. Together they raised twin boys, Duane and Wayne, with a commitment to family and encouragement for fun found through fishing, camping, snowmobiling, games, puzzles, and reading. Florence had a love for children finding an outlet for her passion through running a home day care until returning to Siren when she worked at Searle’s Cranberry Company. Some of the many blessings she counted were the grandchildren and great grandchildren that she proudly called her own. Son, Duane Tessmer, married Martha which blessed her with Megan (married to Mike Chavez) and Donovan. From son, Wayne Tessmer with his wife, Bente, love extended through their children Joshua, Ashley (married to Melanie D’Andrilli), Sarah (White), and Benjamin. Sarah and her husband, Marcus, added to her bounty with great grandchildren Ethan and Lukas. Waiting for Florence when she arrived in heaven were many family members who had gone before her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother – Larry, sister – Margaret, and grandsons – Donovan (16) and Joshua (19).
