Evangeline Unnasch

Evangeline R. Unnasch, age 84 of Grantsburg went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

She was born on December 7, 1936, in Grantsburg, WI, to Raymond and Adeline (Magnuson) Peterson. Evangeline accepted Jesus as her personal Savior when she was nine years old. She carried her faith with her through her life and shared it by her gentle and loving spirit.

She attended UW-Superior and Bethel College. Upon graduation, she began teaching in Houston, MN, where she met the love of her life, Dale. Evangeline and Dale were married June 24, 1961, at First Baptist Church of Grantsburg.

They lived in Houston, MN, where Evangeline taught high school English and Spanish and they farmed. They moved back to Grantsburg four years later where they continued farming and Evangeline taught school for several years.

She was a devoted wife to Dale, celebrating 60 years together on June 24, 2021. She was a devoted mother to her children Heather (Randall) Hill, Bonduel, WI; Mark, Grantsburg, WI. She enjoyed cooking and collected cookbooks. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening; and reaping the fruits of her labor, often canning much of her produce. She combined her love for the LORD and teaching by leading women’s Christian ministries for many years. She also especially enjoyed the local county fair where she brought many exhibits and shared the camaraderie of local community.

She was a wonderful mother, aunt and gracious friend to many. She brings to our minds words from Proverbs 31: “She rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; giver of the fruits of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

She is survived by her husband, Dale; children, Heather (Randall) Hill and Mark, Grantsburg, WI; nephews and nieces, Paul (Brenda) Peterson, Grantsburg, WI, Kathy (Doug) Rykken, Canby, OR, Kevin (Julie) Peterson, Grantsburg, WI, Kevin (Gina) Unnasch, Houston, MN, Brenda (Mike) Miller, La Crescent, MN; and one sister-in-law, Janice Unnasch; and many other friends and family.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother Charles.

A funeral was held at Grace Baptist Church, on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation preceded the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment is at Riverside Cemetery.

Throughout her recent health struggles, she suffered intensely and left an unforgettable memory of a brave woman who loved life but faced death with courage, suffering without complaint, and looking forward to the day she would meet her Savior face to face.

Her life might be summed up in these words from II Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
