Erma Hansen

Erma (Sue) Hansen passed away at the age of 87 on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond, Wisconsin, with her loving daughters at her side. She was born Erma Kathleen Foster on March 29, 1922 in Longmont, Colorado to Ivy and Harry Foster. Sue and her sister, Alma, were raised by their mother and their stepfather, Leslie McCollum, in Greene County, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Jefferson, Iowa in 1940 and attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, becoming a teacher. While vacationing with relatives near Yellow Lake in Wisconsin, she met Marvin Anderson. They were married on August 23, 1943 at Central Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota and built their first home on the Yellow River near Danbury, Wisconsin. She taught in area rural schools until 1945 when they moved to a farm near Jefferson, Iowa. Daughters Judy and Carla were born there. In 1951 Sue and Marvin bought a farm near New Richmond, Wisconsin where they raised their daughters and lived until 1975. Upon retirement, they returned to live at their first home on the Yellow River. In 1977 Marvin passed away and Sue remained in the area until 1980 when she married Roger Hansen and moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. In 1982, following Roger's death, she returned to her beloved Yellow River home and lived there until 1999 when she moved back to New Richmond. Sue treasured her time with family and friends. She delighted in birds and animals, flowers, small children, politics, and travel. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her laughter will be missed. Sue was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Judy (Jerry Brucki) and Carla (Mike Kelly); her grandchildren Stacy Drury (Brian Gross), Justin Drury (Tricia), Meredith Wolf (Mike), and Brad Kelly (MinKyoung); and her great-grandchildren Ava Gross, Levi Gross, Ivy Wolf, and Cora Wolf. Funeral services will be Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Yellow Lake Lutheran Church, Webster. Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. A full obituary will follow.
