Emma Helen Jensen, 96 of Lewis, Wisconsin, passed away August 16, 2014 at the Frederic Nursing Home in Frederic, Wisconsin. Emma was born November 27, 1917 to Joseph and Josephine Svoboda in Bemidji, Minnesota. After graduating from college in River Falls in 1936 she traveled to New York with Annie Stoklasa. While in New York they stayed with Aunt Mary Bonich and also worked for the Blanchard's in Westchester Hills taking care of their son and keeping house. She was saving money to go back to school. After many jobs she ended up working with Donna at the Grassland TB Sanitarium in 1940 for three years of training. Em came home for vacation and then Vi went back with her for graduation. After that she worked for Dr. Bemis in a Woman's Hospital. During WWII Emma entered the Army and went to Fort Dix for basic training. After basic she was assigned to Long Island Mason General Hospital. Upon becoming a civilian she went back to work in New York for Dr. Bemis in private practice. When she had a summer vacation she came back home and met Harold Lee. They were married for Five years when Harold passed away. Emma was working at Frederic Hospital when she met Lavern (Buckshot) Jensen. They were married February 9, 1978 for 23 years. They resided in Lewis until his passing in 2001. Emma moved to Capeside Cove and then to the Frederic Care Center until her passing. Emma enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She didn't like dandelions and spent many hours digging them by the roots from her yard in Lewis. She also enjoyed fishing and had the patience to sit may hours with Buckshot waiting for the big one to come along. She also enjoyed playing cards and shaking dice when the opportunity arose. Her most favorite pastime was playing the slots at the various casinos. Emma was preceded in death by her husband; Lavern (Buckshot) Jensen, and Harold Lee, parents; Joseph and Josephine Svoboda, sisters; Vi, Gladys, Georgia, brothers; Emil, Bill, Jerry, Chuck, Frank, and Bud. She is survived by sister-in-laws; Lavonne Svoboda, Lavone Brethorst; brother-in-law; Bill Lalor, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Lewis Memorial Methodist United Church in Lewis, Wisconsin, on Saturday, August 23,2014. Visitation at 10:00 AM, Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Gil White, lunch at Noon. Graveside service after lunch at the Lorain Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Taylor, Allen Benson, Roger Peterson, Bob Svoboda, Ryan Taylor and Bill Marek. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home - Siren Chapel.
