Elmer Semple

December 10, 1915 — May 17, 2009

Elmer L. Semple, 93, passed away May 17th at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital. He was born in Spooner, WI., December 15,1915 to Arthur and Lillian (Zakzaska) Semple. At the age of 7 moved to Mpls., MN. where he lived most of his life. He enlisted in the Air Force December 14, 1942 and was sent to active duty in Europe. He was in campaigns to Normandy, North France, Rineland and Central Europe. Sept. 1945 he received a disability discharge from the service and returned home to Mpls., Mn. He worked several years at Red Owl Foods in Mpls., as a Meat Cutter and Manager. When he retired he had a home built on Bear Lake in the Webb Lake area. He survived three wives, Joyce Christie, Virginia McHale, and Norma Bates. He moved to Hayward, WI. in 2002 to live with cousins Ray and Carol (Zakzaska) Sheehan, but eventually went to live at Sunset Senior Home where he roomed with his uncle Leroy Zakzaska. He is survived by 5 step children, Uncle Leroy (Betz) Zakzaska, Cousins, Chet and Gail (Zakzaska) Loverude, Ray and Carol (Zakzaska) Sheehan, Ronald Pearson, James and Patty Pearson, Pat and LaVonne Askay, Mike and Patty Askay, George and Donna (Askay) Stedman. Graveside service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Scott Township. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
