Edwin L. Phelps, age 90, a resident of Danbury, WI, passed away at his home while doing yard work on May 13, 2024.
Ed was born on March 9th, 1934 in Danbury, WI to parents Arthur and Jesse Phelps. Ed lived most of his life in Danbury. He graduated from Webster High School. While in high school he met what would become his partner in life. He married Carol Jo McKenna on May 15, 1954 and they moved to California where he was stationed in the US Marine Corp. While in California, their son Bob (Robert) was born. After being honorable discharged, the young family moved to Bloomington, MN. While in Bloomington, the family grew larger, adding a daughter, Patti Lou and a son, Curtis E. The family later moved to Clarks Grove, MN where Edwin worked at a foundry.
In 1972 the family moved to Danbury, WI to be near his mother and father. He spent a few years commuting to work at the Foundry but eventually giving that up to work with his father harvesting wood. Edwin eventually started his own logging business where he was able to work with his son, Robert. Later, Ed’s Logging also added his other son, Curtis and grandson, Jason. The family enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing trips to Canada and racing. Ed and his son’s played softball together for many years. The family would go to the local dirt tracks on Friday or Saturday. On Sunday he enjoyed watching a Nascar race if the Packers were not on. Ed enjoyed bowling, he was still bowling in a league into his late 80s. Ed and Carol enjoyed visiting with their good friends, the Myer’s, Plath’s and Tollander’s.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his son, Robert; his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his children, Patti and Curtis, eight grandchildren, Tracy (Todd), Jason (Crystal), Melissa (Luke), Amy (Bob), Michelle, Randi, Emily (Dustin) and Shane (Ashley); 17 great grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Carlie, Taylor H., Taylor C., Anthony, Evan, Isaiah, Lilly, Henry, Madison, Abbie, Crosby, Gage, Axel, Revy and Christian; 5 great great grandchildren Kaelynn, Carter, Jersey, Avah and Sophia plus one In the hopper. He was also survived by his faithful fur companion Nala.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Siren Covenant Church.
