Edwin “Ed” Dale Olson, age 83 of Danbury, Wisconsin, formerly of Bloomington, Minnesota, died November 18, 2013. Ed (or Dale as he was called by his family) was born on October 27, 1930 in Tarkio, Missouri to Edwin and Tena (Jelden) Olson. He was welcomed home by his older sister, Twilla. Ed grew up in Hildreth, Nebraska and started college at Kearney State College. During the Korean War, Ed was a Second Class Electronic Technician on the USS Dortch DD 670. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1958 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending UNL, Ed married Della Lohmeier on July 14, 1956 in Lincoln, Nebraska. After 32 years, Ed retired from Westinghouse. Ed and Della spent their time between their homes in Wisconsin and Texas. Ed was active with the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years and earned the Westinghouse Electric Corporation Community Service Award. Ed enjoyed spending time researching genealogy and organizing Dortch reunions. He also enjoyed entertaining people with his Ole and Lena jokes. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Twilla, and her husband Walter Gardner. Ed is survived by his wife Della; his children Mary (Bob) Casper, Kathie (Jim) DeTour, Cindy (Doug) Hayden and Mark (Renee) Olson; his grandchildren Stacy (John) Leyva, Bryan, Nicole, Danielle, Jaime, Adam, Brandon, Tena, Nichole, Bryan and Riley; his great grandchildren Aiden, Kaleigh, Patricia, Johnny, Francisco, Daniel and Mariah and great great grandson JayJay; along with other relatives and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 7:00 PM (visitation 5-7 PM) at Huber Funeral Home, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie, Minnesota 55344. A graveside committal will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 AM at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
