Douglas Arlington Mortenson, 77, of Cushing, Wisconsin went to be with the Lord on October 20,2021 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was born at home on October 16, 1944 in Nye, Wisconsin to Carl and Anna Mortenson. He enjoyed a happy childhood with 13 siblings. After attending Osceola Public School, he worked at several jobs before starting at Kroy Industries (UFE) where he remained until his retirement. It was while working there that he met the love of his life, Karen. They were married on April 24, 1976 and embarked on their journey as homeowners by moving into the Orr school. There they worked at converting it into their cozy forever home.
Doug’s hobbies included fishing, bow hunting, rock collecting and jewelry making .He loved to learn and enjoyed challenging repairs. He took pleasure in being the neighborhood handyman. Doug loved people and was glad to offer a hand when they needed help. He was active in the Sterling Historical Society and in recent years enjoyed researching and exploring the history of the area as well as family history. His family was very important to him. Doug was so proud of all of them. He considered Trade River Evangelical Free Church an extension of his family and looked forward to the fellowship on Sundays. Doug was known for his wonderful smile, quick wit and genuine love of people.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Beatrice; and brother, Brian.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen; sons, Greg (Amanda) Mortenson, Kent Anderson and Keith Anderson; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Lester (Pat), Bruce (Rita), Roland, Glenn (Linea), Clifford, James, Jerry (Alex), Dean (Sherry),
Brad (Kim); sisters, Louise (Leland) Lueck, Jane (Randy) Messer, Rita Transue; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. (visitation from 10-11) at Trade River Evangelical Free Church.
