Dorothy Richter

Dorothy Mae Richter, 83, a resident of the Continuing Care Center, Grantsburg, formerly of Siren, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2013. Dorothy was born on June 12, 1929 in Kingsdale, Minnesota to William and Sadie Java Cockerham. She grew up in the Dairyland, Wisconsin area attending the Thompson and Engine Hill Schools. After the passing of her father in 1946, the family moved to the Frederic area where she worked and met her husband Robert, they were married on September 17, 1948, in Pine City, Mn. They raised their 14 children in the Frederic and Osceola areas. After the tragic loss of her husband in 1974, she moved to Dixon, Il. There she became a registered dietician and worked at the Health Care Center until she retired. She began a hobby of collecting of chickens, it became a source of pride for her. In 2006 she came back to Wisconsin, spending the days enjoying her family with cooking, baking, gardening, preserving, sewing, crafting and visiting. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and those who cared for her so wonderfully at CCC. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, sons Bill and Dean, grandson Kyle, her parents, brothers Boyd, Orville, Clifford and Harold, brother-in-law Glenn and half-sister Linda. Dorothy is survived by her children Patsy (Larry) Tucker, Robert Richter, Betsy (Wally) Rightman, Mitsy (Terry) Adolphson, Nancy Tober, Bernard Richter, Bonny Richter, Donna (Allan) Woodrich, Diane (Roy) Jones, Douglas Richter, Dale Richter and Darcy Richter; brothers Donald Cockerham, Wes (Marie) Cockerham, Russ (Ivah) Cockerham and sister Shirley Kimes and half-sister Sandra (Phil) Colee, half-brothers Richard (Debbie) Fredericks and Ronald (Patty) Fredericks; along with 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren with another expected, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2013 from 5-8 PM at Swedberg-Taylor Family Funeral Home, Siren Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Swedberg-Taylor Family Funeral Home, Siren Chapel. A full obituary will follow.
