Donald “Don” Busch , age 85, of Duluth, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 with his wife and daughter by his side in Siren, WI. He was born at home on February 23, 1933 to the late Andrew and Ruth (Peterson) Busch in Superior, WI.
Don served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to his honorable discharge in 1957 where he was stationed in Ulm, Germany, driving truck.
On August 17, 1957 Don married Loretta Wolfe, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Don enjoyed his teaching career for 33 years within the Duluth School District, where he taught 5 th grade elementary, at Chester Park. Don was also an instructor for Driver’s Education with the Duluth Community School Program for over 40 years.
Don’s enjoyment and love of the outdoors is especially noted volunteering with many organized clubs including the National Ski Patrol, Nemadji River Watershed, Duluth Horticultural Society, Duluth Audubon Society and bee keeping. Don was also passionate about hunting and shared his knowledge and his hunting land with his grandsons. Don was also a fan of the MN Vikings, hold season tickets for many years.
Dan was man of faith, serving leadership roles and missions for the Duluth Gosple Tabernacle where he was a member for over 60 years. He was active on the boards of Sandhill Lake Bible Camp. Among his many memories he couriered bibles from Hong Kong into mainland China. He also drove many youth buses on their Missions to Mexico trips.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loretta; daughter, Melody (Robert) Schneider, her sons Ryan (Jenna) Madsen, Justin (Amber) Madsen and Matthew (Maria) Madsen; his son Steven; his son Bradley (Lori) Busch and their children Ashley, Andrea and Bradley; he is also proud of his nine great-grandchildren; Rylee, Logan and Nathan Masen, Justin Jr. and Maykayla Madsen, Tucker, Tanner, Sophia and Emma Madsen.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his four brothers: Richard, Robert, James and Lloyd Busch.
Celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 West Superior Street, on Saturday, January 19 th , 2019 at 11:00 AM (visitation from 10-11:00 AM) with a luncheon to follow.
