Dennis Charles Shutt, age 76, of Webster, WI, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Dennis was born at home in Webster on September 30, 1939, a son of the late Inez Mae (Blodgett) and William Richard Charles Shutt. He was baptized in the Christian faith at his family’s place of worship, Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Webster. He attended local schools and was a 1957 graduate of Webster High School. Dennis served in the U.S. Army from July 30, 1957 and was honorably discharged on May 11, 1959. He then was in the Army Reserves until June 30, 1963. On January 16, 1965, Dennis was united in marriage to Mary Lou Kuester at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, MN. He was employed at M.G. Astleford Co. in Savage, MN, and then Shafer Contracting Co. in Shafer, MN, and was a longtime member of the Twin Cities Carpenters Union local 322. Dennis had outstanding carpentry skills, and built wood furniture. In 1992, he and Mary Lou moved into their home in Meenon Twp. that Dennis had built. He was a hardworking and determined individual who liked staying busy. Dennis made his own maple syrup from the trees on their property. He also tended his own vegetable gardens, grape vines, and fruit trees. Dennis was known for his collection of polished rocks and agates, and also enjoyed feeding the birds, playing cards, traveling, hunting, and fishing, including ice fishing. He also enjoyed Wild Ricing. As a father, while his children were growing up, Dennis was a youth hockey coach and referee. He adored his grandchildren, and loved spending time with them and teaching them how to hunt and fish. He would attempt to be present at every one of the grandchildren’s school and sporting events. A patient, kind and caring man, Dennis was a good provider, and a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Inez Shutt; siblings and their spouses: Catherine (Charles) St. Mane, Myrtle (Harold) Berger, Richard Shutt, and Earl (Gladys) Shutt; and brothers-in-law, Willard Lane and Jerold Jensen. Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Shutt; a son, Martin Charles (Leanne Marie) Shutt; a daughter, Sandra Lou (Stephen) Schmitz; and seven grandchildren: Brandon Shutt, Zachariah Shutt, Ryan Shutt, and Taylor Marie Shutt; and Anthony Schmitz, Douglas (Jessica) Schmitz, and Adam (Jennifer) Schmitz. Also by sisters: Irma Lane, Wilma Jensen, Mary (Garlon) Armstrong, and Phyllis (Henry) Wurst; sister-in-law, Vivian Shutt; mother-in-law, Margaretha Kuester; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis (Dianne) Kuester and Michael (Kathy) Kuester; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call between 5:00 and 7:30 pm, Friday, March 4, 2016, at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, WI. The funeral service for Dennis will be conducted at 11:00 am (visitation 10:00 to 11:00 am), Saturday, March 5th, at Grace United Methodist Church in Webster, WI, with Pastor Tom Cook officiating. Full military honors will conclude the service followed by a fellowship luncheon. Pallbearers are his grandsons: Brandon Shutt, Zachariah Shutt, Ryan Shutt, Anthony Schmitz, Douglas Schmitz, and Adam Schmitz. The candle bearer is his granddaughter, Taylor Marie Shutt.
